Angels among us…
Yes, we can communicate with those angels through a simple loving chat of connection or have an impactful possibility of healing. And everything in between!
On the latest episode of my podcast, I chat with Spiritual Medium, Christine Varnum. We had so much fun!! So many nuggets of wisdom shared!! Listen here for the latest episode of Mindstruck! Meditation and Awareness Studio Podcast.
Christine is a Spirit Medium. Find out what that means and how she honors and incorporates mediumship into her Life Coach offerings. It is truly miraculous!
Our Culture…
I have noticed in our culture, more so than other cultures, there is taboo about believing in and/or communicating with loved ones who have already transitioned from their life on earth. There are all sorts of judgments and fears surrounding this.
If we are honest with ourselves and really sink into our heart space, releasing ourselves from cultural beliefs and perhaps even religious doctrine, we all have the capacity to feel our loved ones around us. We can feel the angels among.
As a medium, Christine becomes the bridge, the messenger between the Earth plane and the Spirit world and it is a profound gift of healing.
Sometimes the healing is for those on earth. Sometimes the healing is for those who have already transitioned. Most often it is a two-way healing process for the relationship. Any healing that occurs here on Earth benefits the Spirit world. Any healing that occurs in the Spirit world, benefits and transfers to healing on Earth.
I love that Christine has found a way to help her clients move forward in their lives by being a medium.
Mediums as “The Party Trick” …
Mediums, if they are worth their weight in salt, are healers, not party tricks. Though there are times when mediums are treated like a party trick: “tell me something that only I could know, and I will believe you”, a test of sorts and it becomes a type of performance on demand.
This “Party Trick Strategy” is a way for people to attempt to believe in something that they have been taught/programmed is “wrong”, “evil” or “doesn’t exist”. Or it is a way to test the medium. Either way, this blocks a true connection. Its blocks connection with Spirit, it blocks connections with one’s own soul, and it blocks connections with Love.
My first conscious communication…
with a loved on the other side was when I was drying my hair one morning getting ready for work. It was my grandmother. I realized at that moment, it was her voice I was hearing, not my own. I share this story in this episode. It’s a good one! Btw, my grandmother passed from this earth long before I was born. But I knew, I just knew… it was her. We didn’t have any images of her in my house growing up, but I had seen an image of her in my Grandpa’s house and this was the image that flashed before me when I heard her voice. This is just one way that mediumship works.
On another occasion, again while drying my hair, a spirit from the other side approached me on behalf of a new physical therapy patient I was to see that day. So I didn’t know the being and I didn’t even know the patient at the time. The full communication really came to full fruition later that morning when I met my new patient for the first time and the being on the other side presented once again. It was a very pure connection. The healing that came through for this new patient was incredible. The healing for the being on the other side was no less remarkable.
To be a part of that has been one of the greatest honors that I have experienced in this life, second only to birthing my three children into the world.
I can’t tell you the gratitude I still feel. I also benefitted greatly from that very message and I have shared it over and over again in my practice and in my life. It is always a balm and an evergreen gift. It keeps on giving and it keeps me doing what I do, even when it’s hard.
While Drying My hair… how funny is that?
It is during the mundane activities in our life that we can be the most open and the most mindful, because we are not overthinking, overanalyzing, or over engaging brain activity (and expectations).
It is in this state of mindfulness (not autopilot of mindlessness) that mediumship is available. Specifically for me, it’s while drying my hair. Maybe for you, it’s gardening, doing the dishes, cleaning your windows, folding laundry or driving.
It happens in the grocery store. It occurs naturally during sessions I am carrying out with my clients, and still other times, it comes through when I am deep in meditation.
Being aware, paying attention, being mindful…BEING! Drying my hair could be a mindless autopilot activity. But instead, it has turned out to be a mindful moment and a very real addition to the depths of my life, adding to the life of the people I know, love, and work with.
Being a medium means you must be aware, be mindful, and you must BE! It has nothing to DO with DOING!
Mediumship is as beautiful as a heartfelt conversation over the phone, on a walk with a dear friend or a chat with a loved one over coffee. Conversations. Chats.
Listen in for one of Christine’s’ greatest pieces of advice about healing. It’s a catchy one that will ring through and I think you find it hard to forget!
As always read, listen, and be around things and people that inspire you and add to your life. Settle for nothing less. Give yourself lots and lots of reasons to stay present.
Thich Nhat Hanh says: “do your dishes before you save the world”
“To my mind, the idea that doing dishes is unpleasant can occur only when you aren’t doing them. Once you are standing in front of the sink with your sleeves rolled up and your hands in the warm water, it is really quite pleasant. I enjoy taking my time with each dish, being fully aware of the dish, the water, and each movement of my hands. I know that if I hurry in order to eat dessert sooner, the time of washing dishes will be unpleasant and not worth living. That would be a pity, for each minute, each second of life is a miracle. The dishes themselves and that fact that I am here washing them are miracles!”
–Thich Nhat Hanh
“If while washing dishes, we think only of the cup of tea that awaits us, thus hurrying to get the dishes out of the way as if they were a nuisance, then we are not “washing the dishes to wash the dishes.” What’s more, we are not alive during the time we are washing the dishes. In fact, we are completely incapable of realizing the miracle of life while standing at the sink. If we can’t wash the dishes, the chances are we won’t be able to drink our tea either. While drinking the cup of tea, we will only be thinking of other things, barely aware of the cup in our hands. Thus we are sucked away into the future -and we are incapable of actually living one minute of life.” ― Thích Nhất Hạnh, The Miracle of Mindfulness
I Loooovvveee this from Jason Mraz:
“BUT WHAT IS IT ABOUT OUR HUMANNESS, WHERE WE FORGET, WE REMEMBER, WE FORGET, WE REMEMBER, WE FORGET, AND I THINK IT’S JUST FOR THE OPPORTUNITY OF ENLIGHTENMENT. THE OPPORTUNITY OF WAKING AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN CAUSE IT FEELS GOOD. IT FEELS GOOD TO REMEMBER OUR GREATNESS. YA KNOW? IT WOULDN’T BE SO BRIGHT IF THERE WASN’T A SHADOW EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE…YEAH SO ANYWAY, REMEMBER, FORGET, REMEMBER, FORGET, THIS SONG IS ABOUT FORGETTING AND REMEMBERING, AND I REALIZED IT’S SO THAT WE CAN ACHIEVE ENLIGHTENMENT, BUT THEN, ALAS! WE ALL STILL HAVE TO DO OUR FUCKING LAUNDRY”.
Just keep coming back to presence to really experience your life and the true miracle of living. Keep coming back to presence to be awake, to remember, to connect.
We all have to do our laundry. We all have to do our dishes. Will we do it in an awakened state or asleep? Mindfully or mindlessly?
Being in our present moment is THE miracle.
Peace in ~ Peace Out
